Surprising things that increase your risk for cancer

Lots of factors increase one's risk for cancer, factors ranging from aging, binging on alcohol, family history of cancer, poor diet, overweight, tobacco etc. Asides from these obvious reasons that causes cancer, here are more things that could put you at risk of getting cancer, these factors range from everyday things we indulge in, the knowledge of which aren't meant to scare you but to be more aware of the risk they carry.

Air fresheners

Air fresheners are used in almost every house and also in cars to mask offensive odors. However, these sweet smelling products do more harm than good, the sense of sanitation they seem to falsely provide is only as a result of the chemical contents that assault our olfactory receptors in our nostrils, which renders us incapable of focusing on other smells. Air fresheners also expose the air in our homes to harmful chemicals like methyl pyrrolidone, dichloro, propanol etc, which are known to trigger kidney and liver cancer.

Birth control pills

Multiple pregnancies and childbirth followed by breastfeeding for a year or more have been proven to reduce the chances of breast cancer ever happening. Taking birth control pills in order not to have kids at all increases your risk for breast cancer as well as cervix and liver cancer.

Cosmetics

Certain cosmetics can be gotten rid off by a single wash at the end of the day and they don't pose a threat to one's health. However, sunscreens and hair dyes have been linked to increasing one's risk for cancer as their chemical content not only get absorbed into the skin but stored in the body also.

Candles

Candles are mainly used to create an intimate or romantic atmosphere, however, regular use of candles in poorly ventilated rooms increases cancer risk. When a candle is lighted it's paraffin wax melts and releases fumes that contain carcinogens and other fossil fuel components which are detrimental to one's health. To be on the safer side, ensure proper ventilation in candle lit rooms and try to make candle lighting a habit.
